Creating a healthy living space
Why should you clean and purify your indoor space?
There are a growing number and variety of warnings about indoor air pollution. We continue to worry about outdoor air pollution, which is rising steadily with industrial, commercial and urban activity. This atmospheric pollution has a direct impact on air quality inside our homes.
However, in addition to chemical pollutants, there are of course “microbes” in the air carried by water “droplets”. These microorganisms are real threats that affect the quality of our indoor air and can therefore have adverse effects on our health. These microorganisms can be mould, bacteria, dust mites, allergens, pollens etc.
Most people spend the majority of their time indoors. This explains the impact of indoor air pollution on our health, with an even more marked impact in winter. During this cold period, household activity ramps up, particularly in the kitchen, the indoor temperature rises and windows remain closed. This results in reduced ventilation and an accumulation of biological indoor pollutants in particular. Inhaling biological pollutants present in the air can cause acute, subacute and toxic infectious respiratory diseases and increase the occurrence of or aggravate allergies.
Thanks to a number of studies, we are able to prove the impact of microbiological pollution of indoor air on our health. An intelligent way of combating this pollution needs to be organised and programmes to make our ambient air cleaner need to be innovative so as not to jeopardise indoor air quality.
Due to their indisputable antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral and antiparasitic properties, essential oils have become key ways of purifying our indoor spaces. The volatile chemical composition and “pleasant smelling” character of essential oils makes them products of choice for cleaning and purifying the air.
Essential oils for the whole family
The number one antiviral essential oil in aromatherapy is undoubtedly Ravintsara, also known for its immunity-boosting and antibacterial properties. Other oxide-based essential oils can be used to give a similar but slightly less powerful effect (e.g. eucalyptus radiata, mandravasarotra, myrtle with cineole, rosemary with cineol, bay).
When diffused, Ravintsara gives a note of freshness and purifies the air, which is very useful. You can diffuse Ravintsara essential oil for 10 to 20 minutes, three times a day (8-10 drops of essential oil). To sanitise the air and enjoy a pleasant aroma, blends of several essential oils have been designed:
- Strength and Vitality: Maritime pine, Eucalyptus globulus, Eucalyptus dives, Mint, Sweet orange, Ravintsara, Mandravasarotra.
- Eucaly’pur: Atlas cedar, Eucalyptus dives, Eucalyptus smithii, Eucalyptus globulus, Scots pine, Corn mint, Peppermint, Marjoram, Vetiver
For very young children, diffusing essential oils is also a good way of strengthening their immunity. To do this, Pranarôm has developed special blends such as “Pranabb purifying diffusion”, made with essential oils of Ravintsara, Rosewood and Niaouli. From the age of 3 months, use three drops in the diffuser for 1 hour alternately. Make sure that you do not use the diffuser while they are sleeping.
To find out more about diffusion, take a look at the article " tout savoir sur mon diffuseur ultrasonique ».
What if you don’t have a diffuser at home and you want to create your own vaporising blend from several essential oils? Why not combine these three essential oils known to stimulate our immune defences?
- 200 drops of lemon oil
- 300 drops of Ravintsara essential oil
- 80 drops of Lavender essential oil
- All in a large 30 ml spray bottle
Vaporise once a day in your surroundings.
Do you prefer ready-made, effective and natural solutions to purify your indoor space?
Pranarôm has developed innovative solutions to have a microbiological air purifying effect and reconcile the demands for indoor air quality with a deodorising effect creating a pleasant and fresh aroma. Creating a product of this kind, made using pure, natural and certified organic essential oils with proven purifying properties, is very complicated. This is because the technology of the sprays selected by Pranarôm requires the particles to remain suspended in the atmosphere to ensure targeted and lasting effectiveness.
Two sprays – two universes
First, Pranarôm developed the “Organic Purifying Spray”, a clever blend of Sweet orange and Ravintsara essential oils. The combining of these essential oils brings freshness to your interior. This spray ensures cleaner air as it is made using essential oils that have been carefully selected for their antiviral, antibacterial and antiseptic properties.
High-level studies by independent laboratories demonstrate the lethal effect of this “Organic purifying spray with Sweet orange and Ravintsara essential oils” on a number of pathogens. This diffusion helps to improve occupants’ comfort by improving their perception of the ambient air, preventing unwanted microbe pollution and providing microbiological purification of indoor air.
The latest product to come out of the Pranarôm laboratory is the Purifying spray with Ravintsara and Tea tree essential oils (+ Eucalyptus). This spray with its fresh, green notes of cineol has been designed specially to combat viruses and bacteria. Tests conducted by independent laboratories have demonstrated the formula to be effective in eliminating viruses (5 min. Adenovirus, Poliovirus, Murine norovirus, Influenza A virus H1N1) and bacteria (5 min. Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterococcus hirae, Escherichia coli).
Have your disinfectant close to hand
A healthy environment is essential but this is not enough to boost your immunity. Did you know that washing your hands reduces infections by half? And yes, we carry millions of microbes on our hands, most of which are harmless but some of which can be dangerous. Hygiene and hand washing are therefore vital for human health and we’ve heard this all through 2020 with the Covid-19 pandemic.
For cleaning your hands, you are advised to add an essential oil to your preferred hand wash. Essential oils of Tea tree, Geranium or even Lemon are the best choices for all the family because of their incredible antiviral and anti-infection properties.
When doing your shopping or coming out of your sports class, you’re not always able to wash your hands with soap and water as recommended, so why not opt for a quick disinfectant made from essential oils when out and about?
